On The Market: Dent, Minnesota

by Bill on January 4, 2008

Welcome to On The Market where we shine the spotlight on cabins currently for sale so you know what to expect the next time your are On The Market. This week we are traveling to beautiful Dent, Minnesota population 177!!

Listed on 11/20/2007 by Lakesteam realtors, the 2890 square foot home is everything you could ask for in a cabin.

Just look at the grass that covers most of the 5 acres the single story cabin sits on. With over 350 feet of prime private lake shoreline and the 9,000 acre Maplewood State Park just a few miles away, pictures just don’t seem to do this home justice. Let’s take a look inside:

This view tells us a couple of very important things about this particular cabin: 1)It’s been taken care of. The look of the wood, the way everything comes off very clean looking not to mention the choice in furniture lets you know the previous owner loved this place 2) The natural light surrounding the cabin isn’t blocked by bulky walls or heavy curtains. Nothing brings out that log cabin shine like sunlight and the builders of this cabin kept that in mind.

Now let’s talk specs!! 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a 3 season porch, 2 sheds, and a garage equal enough space for the largest of families. Not to mention that private lake!!! Now I know what you’re thinking. This thing probably runs in the upper $100k’s. Wrong. Try just under $300k. Can you believe this amazing cabin with it’s built in fireplaces and beautiful hardwood floors is under $500k? There’s something to be said about small town living and the allure of a life filled walking hiking trails after hours spent fishing all day.

On The Market: Burr Oak Park

by Bill on December 28, 2007

Over the past few months I’ve posted a regular column on Friday’s entitled “Cabin Critiques” which basically showcases the different ways people are decorating their homes. Though I still plan to continue that thread on a weekly basis, I thought it might be cool to take that idea to the next step. “On The Market” will not only allow us a chance to peer inside various types of log homes, but what sets this new thread apart is that it will highlight cabins that are currently for sale!! Meaning if you wanted to, you could literally pick up the phone and own the cabin you just read about within hours of seeing it here on the Log Homes Journal. Plus this will give us a chance to explore the market in terms of how much bang you can get for your buck.. How many rooms will $100k buy you? Does an $300k cabin come with a Jacuzzi? These are all things we will be exploring in the weeks to come.

Today’s cabin for sale comes from Eagle Star realtors and is located in southeast Ohio adjacent to Burr Oak State Park. The park offers numerous miles of hiking trails, sandy beaches, hunting grounds, and of course a fantastic golf course. Enough about the surroundings though, let’s get to the good stuff. Check out this gorgeous cabin:

Sitting on 31-acres of the greenest terrain you have ever seen, the 3420 sq ft estate features: 3 bathrooms, 2 laundry rooms, 3 bedrooms (1 master first floor and 2 second floor), 2 porches, cathedral ceilings, a great room, a loft, and RV parking. Be prepared to be blown away by this dazzling kitchen:

How much to the owners want for the house and the included 3 car garage? How does $499k sound? Is this too steep? Is this a steel? Here’s your turn to give share your thoughts. How much would you pay for this amazing home? Did I mention it is a favorite spot for wild deer?
