If you want to redecorate your entire home, then learning interior design and decorating might be the thing to do. So, with that in mind, interior design software could be one of your purchases, especially if you don’t want to employ a decorator. There are of course advantages and disadvantages to the whole idea of “Do It Yourself”. First, If you’re not a computer-friendly person then you might find it a bit difficult to pilot the waters of interior design software. Again, there is always the alternative, to get yourself an interior decorator where you will shell out substantially more than you can afford. Which in turn, means that you might have to cut down on some of your decorating needs. If you are anything like me, you would be saying right now – “I don’t think so!”

Now, here you are, you have made the decision to give it a go yourself. Leaving the designers and decorators behind. Congratulations! It needn’t be as difficult as you think and can even be absolute incredible fun. The only time that you’ll truly might get a worry is when you need to do your budget. After that it’s a matter of sliding your way downhill through your home interior design plan. And hopefully with barely any bumps or detours. But, those can be exspected, so don’t get discouraged, keep moving forward in your interior design plans.

Now back to the software. If you’re not too well-situated with your artistic abilities and visual image skills you might look to some relief of a well know friend to help you understand the software. However, if you are a die hard and want to learn it yourself, by all means, don’t hesitate. The learning will pay off for you. It doesn’t actually matter either way how you go about it as long as you get you home interior design project off the ground.

After all there’s only so long that you can stand and watch your house fall to pieces around you. Ok, Though that might have been a bit of an exaggeration, if you’re thinking about home interior design or remodeling then now is the time to do it. If you put it off now, there’s no telling when and if there will be a next time.

And one of the very first things you can do for your home interior design project will be to decide precisely what you’re going to do. For example, are you going to go through the entire house one room at a time or are you going to do only one or two rooms right now. This is an important decision, so take your time and make sure it is what you want to do. This decision dictates the how, what and when of then next phases.

After you decide that, then you can move on to the next phase which is provision, what you’re planning to do. And this is where the home interior design software comes in handy. I told you earlier, the learning will pay off, well guess what, here is where it pays off. With this little visual image aid you can imagine what your redecorating plans will do to your rooms and make your life just that much more easier. And in the end that’s really what you want isn’t it, to make your life easier. So, stop putting it off with excuses. Learn the fundamentals of interior design and decorating, get yourself a good piece of interior design software and bring you home back to life.

The aim of your interior designer and project coordinator is to create the home you want that suits your lifestyle. A good interior designer is trying to get the best possible end result within budget and with the least inconvenience to you. Nevertheless there are some areas where you can help.

1	To avoid misunderstandings sake sure all decisions are recorded in writing and if necessary on a drawing. Make sure you understand the drawings and if you don’t raise the matter with your interior designer.

2	Look carefully at all the samples and make sure you like you like all aspects of the sample supplied – the colour and the finish. What variation can you expect between the sample and the stock that will be supplied? What is considered normal? Are you happy with it? If not select something else.

3	Decide what you are going to do yourself and do it. If you have an agreement with your interior designer that you will do some of the selection yourself then you must actually do it and do it on time. You are part of the whole team and if you fail to deliver on time, in the same way as anyone else on the team be it a plumber or electrician fails to deliver, the project will not move forward, and you may incur costs if other people’s work is rescheduled as a result.

4	Once the project starts try not to make changes. Changes can create delay, a contractor may need to reschedule work and as a consequence not return for several weeks.

When you make changes the original plan has to be cancelled. Everyone has to be informed of the change. Items that have been ordered then have to be returned and there is usually a restocking charge. New items need to be ordered. This all involves a great deal of time. Plus the new arrangement may have knock on effects elsewhere which will cause further unforeseen costs.

5	Keep an eye on your budget. If your budget is limited bear that in mind when you make your selections. You can’t have the best everything if you don’t want to spend much (and indeed it is necessary to have the best of everything to achieve a good effect).

You must share your budget with your interior designer. A good interior designer is working for you to achieve best value with your money and they cannot do this efficiently without a full understanding of what you have to spend. Work with your interior designer to identify a contingency to cover those unforeseen costs that always appear in any project no matter how big or small.

Make sure you fully understand the scope of works for your interior designer ie exactly what they are doing for you and the basis under which they will charge.

Your relationship with your interior designer is important especially at a potentially very stressful time when your home is in turmoil and being traipsed through by strangers in big boots. A good interior designer is there to provide you with the support you need to help you through and even enjoy this potentially traumatic experience. A relationship of trust and one built on the basis of good communication is essential to ensure you achieve the wonderful home you deserve.

The first rule for buying art is to love it. The second rule is to be able to pay for it without taking out a bank loan. And, rule #3? Feel good about what you paid for it.

So, how do you know that a piece of art is worth the asking price? If you love it, and can afford it, should you buy it?

We asked over one-hundred interior design professionals for some help. We asked them to review pieces of art and tell us what they think about the quality of the work and the asking price. Each designer chose five pieces of art to review from over 4000 original and limited edition artworks created by independent, fine artists whose work is available at www.DiscoveredArtists.com.

Designers were asked to comment on how they might use the art in an interior room design, and were asked to only review artworks that they felt were worth the asking price. In other words, would you recommend that your client buy this piece of art at that price. Here’s what they said:

Terry Symington is principal designer and owner of T. Symington & Co. Interiors in Brenham, Houston, and Austin Texas. She is a big fan of using art in her interior designs and suggests that “For rooms lacking a proper focal point, an oversized painting makes a great statement!”

Ms. Symington reviewed Fleurs Rondes #19, a 12″ x 18″ contemporary collage by Canadian born artist Lisa Carney. The artwork is a mixed media original on panel priced at $115. Lisa Carney is a formally trained, emerging, full time artist who is represented by galleries. She creates abstract, modern, and fine art using multi-media methods and materials. Her work is especially suited for decorative interior design.

Symington’s review of Fleurs Rondes 19: “I would love to see a grouping of several of Ms.Carney’s collages in an interior to make a really big statement. Her combinations of materials, textures and colors are very pleasing … the the pricing makes it very affordable!”

Elaine Buderer, principal designer for Restoration Interior Design, LLC in Columbia, Maryland writes, “Good art brings some life into a space,” and adds that she approaches design by, “Using color, texture, furniture, art and the existing elements of a home.”

Ms Buderer reviewed Drayton Hall #20 a 21″ x 25″ limited edition by fine art photographer John Michiels. The artwork is an edition of 40 that is signed and numbered by the artist, matted and framed with glass, and sells for $525.

John Michiels’ primary style is fine art, his signature style is southern gothic. He is a mature, juried artist who is represented by galleries. Michiels personally completes every step of the printmaking process in his studio in his Charleston South Carolina studio currently offering prints in editions of 45 or less.

Interior Designer Elaine Buderer’s review of Drayton Hall #20: “This is a spiritual piece. It hints of serenity (provided by the classic balance) with a vision of hope beyond. It would be a soothing vista in a quiet room.”

Nicky Quartermaine Scott is owner and principal designer for Quartermaine Interiors in Plainfield, Illinois. Her advice to art buyers in general is “If you’re stuck choosing a color scheme for your home, look to art for your inspiration. Select a piece that you truly love, and start from there. Art will reveal some wonderful colors that you can use as a foundation for your project.”

Ms. Scott reviewed Italian artist Mauro Celotti’s large, landscape titled Follow the Clouds. It is a 50″ x 40″ original acrylic on gallery wrap canvas priced at $3600. Celotti is a mature, professional artist, formally trained and juried, who paints abstract, modern, surreal and figurative subjects.

Scott’s review of Follow the Clouds: “This piece is reminiscent of Van Gogh, but with a twist. I love the color combination of orange, grey and white. It has a masculine quality to it, with diagonal line and strong movement, but the soft, undulating earth reflects back nicely to Mother Nature herself.”

So, going back to the rules for buying art, if you need a second opinion you certainly should get one. But, it seems that the driving force behind each of these professional reviews is how much they liked the artwork and how they might use it in a room. So, if you love it, and can afford it, it deserves a place on your wall.

To read more about any piece of artwork featured in this story go to www.DiscoveredArtists.com and type the name of the art or the artists name in Keyword Search. To read more designer comments or to contact a featured interior designer click on Search Interior Designers on the DiscoveredArtists.com home page.

About DiscoveredArtists.com
DiscoveredArtists.com is a marketplace for buying and selling original and limited edition artworks. Independent artists sell directly to the general public. Prices are set by the artists and artwork is shipped from the artist’s studio. All major credit cards are accepted. Artwork may be purchased online and is backed by a satisfaction guarantee of a full refund plus return shipping expense.

Algarve is a region in Portugal that is found at the southernmost part of the country and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region as well. One of the thriving industries in Algarve is the furniture and interior design industry where interior designers create wonderful living spaces for the residents and for those who purchase vacation homes here with the use of local furniture as well as imported furniture. The kind of furniture design Algarve interior designers choose for their projects vary from one home to another and may include classic wood based furnishings, contemporary leather covered furniture and even post-modern metal based furniture.

Interior designers in Algarve and in some of the other regions of Portugal utilize furnishings from the region as well as from outside the region and the country to create the kind of ambiance their clients want. Some of the more popular choices in furniture design Algarve interior designers use for their work are the light wood pieces that can look good both indoors and outdoors. Such furniture, like patio chairs, garden benches with cushions, wicker and wood sofas, and wooden tables are some of the common favorites that interior designers in Algarve are often asked to include in their designs. These wood and wicker based furniture are often included in certain mixes of home furnishings to add warmth to a place and to give it a homey feel. This kind of a design is often popular among those who have holiday homes in Algarve and those who wish to create the tropical, seaside feeling that is what the region is popular for.

While some people in Algarve opt for the kind of furniture that gives off that homey feel, there are those who opt for a different kind of ambiance altogether. There are some homeowners who commission Algarve interior designers to include rather modern pieces in the way their homes are set up. The modern furniture design Algarve interior decorators use often include metal and leather mixed furniture for the dining room, combination leather furniture for the living room, metal and wicker mixed chairs and tables as well as glass and metal tables for the living room and dining rooms of these homes.

Choosing the furniture can be wholly delegated to the designer who simply presents the finished home to the client. Some homeowners however wish to have a hand in deciding what goes into their homes in Algarve and often choose some of the furniture for such an endeavor with the supervision and advice of the interior designer working on their homes. Some of these homeowners can take advantage of some of the furniture packages that already come mixed and matched for their convenience or they can choose individual pieces that they believe will look good together in their homes. The furniture design Algarve furniture makers and sellers find that is most popular with these homeowners is the design that exudes a certain resort town feeling which is what Algarve is rather popular for.

There are furniture stores in Algarve that interior decorators frequent for their needs and they may sometimes bring their clients in to see the numerous choices that are there. Some of these furnishings can be had cheaper in sets or can be bought as individual pieces to be mixed and matched for that unique appeal some homeowners want for their homes.
