A Tour Of A Tiny House

I’m way past that point in my life now where I had little and thus didn’t need much space. Now a days I do good to keep my junk under control even with the help of a yard sale once a year. However I don’t think there was ever I time I could get my all my stuff to fit into a closet at one time (listen to me bragging about all my possession whatever). Even in my college days when I lived in a room with a dude and his hissing cockroach, I still managed to keep a large collection of assorted T’s and unused textbooks. How in the world Jay Shafer does it I’ll never know.

Since 1997 Jay has been living in a house with less than 100 square feet and is now making a living selling his tiny homes to the public. Why in the world would you or Jay want to simplify your life to the point that everything including the kitchen sink can be put in something a little larger than a footlocker? Well the way Jay sees it “My decision to inhabit just 100 square feet arose from some concerns I had about the impact a larger house would have on the environment, and because I do not want to maintain a lot of unused or unusable space. My houses have met all of my domestic needs without demanding much in return. The simple, slower lifestyle my homes have afforded is a luxury for which I am continually grateful.”

Jay is now offering his designs to the public through his company Tumbleweed Tiny House Company. Those interested in living in one of this tiny cabins can either purchase the plans and do it themselves or have one built off site and delivered to their…well I guess it would be front door…and delivered to their front lawn. Here’s just a glimpse at some of the cool log homes Jay is offering:
